Calgary and surrounding communities were hit hard just two weeks ago by a devastating flood, and the community has been forever impacted and changed. The destruction of homes, the loss of mementos and even four lives is what we have all been left thinking of.
On Wednesday, July 3, Calgary craft breweries and Telus Spark came together for a benefit event, Suds for Floods, with 100% of the proceeds earned going to the Calgary Red Cross. Sentiments shared by many Calgarians is that not only individuals but many organizations are coming together to support those in need from the tragic events that began on June 20. The strength and generosity of Calgarians has been overwhelming, and Suds for Floods affirmed this with such a successful turnout. The fundraiser was spearheaded by Big Rock and supported by Brewsters, Brew Brothers, Wild Rose Brewery, Village Brewery and brand spankin’ new brewery Tool Shed Brewing. Local bands came out to support the cause; Rondel Roberts, Noel Johnson, Napalmpom, and The Dudes. The city of Calgary is fortunate to have so many community oriented and passionate breweries, and supportive organizers and artists.
Breweries showcased some of their recent brews, and Village Brewery even gave guests a sneak peak of a new seasonal brew, soon to be released on Monday, July 8 at Blind Monk-Stay tuned for more on this brew! Tool Shed Brewing, fresh out of Calgary, announced that they will officially be hitting stores and pubs with three beers sometime this month.
A huge shout out and thank you to all breweries for their incredible support and Telus Spark for making the initiative possible!
